KLARA BUDA

Ms. Buda is a novelist, researcher, and human rights activist who previously had a long career in journalism in France.

A graduate of the prestigious École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris, she holds a PhD in Literary, Musical and Visual Thought. She served as Editor-in-Chief and subsequently as Head of Department at Radio France Internationale (RFI) in Paris.

She has had a distinguished career in journalism. Apart from RFI, she also worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Her BBC reports from Paris were widely praised by the public, and “Klara Buda, BBC Paris” became a recognizable signature for audiences. Before that, she also worked for UNESCO.

While serving as Head of Department at RFI, she held multiple positions as a lecturer in radio journalism and political discourse for the Council of Europe. She led several media diagnostic missions in Southeast Europe and designed numerous training programs on media independence, ethical journalism, and political discourse. Her work on multi-ethnic broadcasting services was recognized by the Director of the Council of Europe in 2004.

In 2013, she was awarded the “Francophone Personality of the Year” prize by the International Organization of La Francophonie for her work in facilitating cultural exchange.

She earned a Master’s degree in Historical and Philological Sciences and Art History from the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris and later pursued doctoral studies at the European Graduate School, while also studying creative writing in the United States.
